Heather was too overcome by the sight of the food in front of her to respond immediately - by the time she looked up from the plate to grin and offer her thanks, the boy was halfway gone again. Well, she could feel bad about that later. She took a sip of coffee - bliss - and forked a chunk of golden hashbrown into her mouth, chewing meditatively while she lined her thoughts up and tried not to think about how what she said and how she said it might affect that fate.

"Um, I was in my cell watching tv, and the power cut out. I figured, no big deal, somebody just screwed something up again, and went to read a book instead. But then I heard someone letting themselves into my room, so I go out and there's this fuckin' huge guy all covered in dust and blood with somebody's hand. As in, not attached to the rest of them. I played dumb for a while because I didn't know if he was gonna freak out if he knew why I was there or what. He told me something got loose and then he was gonna leave, and I asked him to take me with him. I wasn't trying to escape, I just thought - depending what got out, and with the situation being bad enough that D class were running around with severed hands and not getting gunned down? Probably the plan was blow the place up, or something. I didn't wanna get blown up with it."

She shrugged, speared a piece of bacon. That was fair, right? They couldn't be mad at her just for trying not to die.

Well, they could, but they'd probably be madder if she lied.

"Anyway, he figured out why I was there when I didn't have any shoes. He asked for my designation and why I was in there, I told him. Made him do the little teapot dance when he asked for a demo. He thought about it a bit and then I guess he decided I wasn't scary enough to deserve getting left behind, 'cause he took me with."
